Reduction of Packet Delay and Performance Analysis of Ethernet Passive Optical Network

In recent years data traffic is increasing at an unprecedented rate, but little has changed in the access network. This tremendous growth of internet traffic has accentuated the aggravating lag of access network capacity. Neither DSL nor cable modems can keep up with such demand of access network capacity because both technologies are built on top of existing communication infrastructure not optimized for data traffic. Most network operators have come to the realization that a new, data centric solution is necessary. With that in mind, we present a dynamic approach using Ethernet Passive Optical Network to provide effective bandwidth for data traffic which also leads to reduce time delay. In this paper, we propose a bandwidth allocation scheme for every optical network unit which in turn will help to increase data traffic density without affecting bandwidth.
