dc.description.abstractWireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications are new, fast growing telecommunication protocols operating mainly in a free Industry- Scientific-Medicine(ISM) frequency bands. A very typical approach of developing a WLAN is to use an access point as a central device. This paper presents an alternative approach for building an Access Point named as Virtual Access Point where a laptop is converted into an access point by which a WiFi hotspot can be easily built. The paper also delivers a clear performance comparison between a traditional access point and a virtual access point in terms of data transfer rate. Some other comparisons are also addressed in terms of security and mobility.en_US
