Internship report on risk management, corporate governance disclosures & corporate social responsibility of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited “Gulshan Branch”
This study is on SJIBL, one of the largest private, unique, dynamic professional, caring, trustworthy banks of Bangladesh. The company incorporated in Bangladesh on 1st April 2001 under the companies act 1994 and listed in Dhaka Stock Exchange Limited and Chittagong Stock Exchange Limited with Authorized capital tk. 10,000.00 million. The company also issued Certificate of Commencement of Business on the same day and was granted license on April 18, 2001 by Bangladesh Bank. Gulshan Branch of SJIBL is one of the most profitable branches. It is committed to conduct all banking and investment activities on the basis of interest free profit loss sharing system. SJIBL follows the rules and regulation prescribed by the Bangladesh bank for scheduled commercial bank. The bank follows standard procedure of current banking system. It is an online banking system. It has several departments. Such as general banking, this deals with day-to-day transaction. It has foreign trade department, which deals with transaction relate parties. It has Investment department, which deals with loans and credits. Banks loans are greatly emphasized and it can be called the „Heart‟ of the bank because it is the major source of bank‟s income. But loan is related with risk. SJIBL is competed to encounter various types of financial and non-financial risks. These are- Investment Risk. Liquidity Risk, Market Risk, Operational Risk, Reputation Risk, Sustainability Risk. The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange commission (BSEC) issued a Corporate Governance (CG) guideline in 2012 which is being followed by SJIBL on „Comply‟ basis. SJIBL being one of the best corporate citizen of the country, has been discharging its responsibilities to the society in general directly through its banking activities and through its fully owned subsidiary, towards Shareholders, Employees, Customers, Suppliers, Community, Environment.
